Jungle Snake – Wyeth Walks #165-166

First day of kindergarten for my son yesterday, so I forewent my walk so I could help get him ready for the school bus.  In the end he had a good day, but it sure broke my heart a bit to see his terror as he climbed onto a school bus full of older kids who all knew the ropes already.  Today it was hard to get myself on the trail again, but I did.  I was a bit sad that the light is coming later in the morning, so my normal walking time does not have nearly as good photography light anymore.  But, I marveled yet again at how all my old photo stops looked so completely different in different light.  This vine I think looks like a snake wrapped around a log, and I’ve been eyeing it for a photo for months now.  I’ve never been able to capture it the way I wanted, but given the lack of other photo ops jumping out at me, I decided to give it a go.  I like the contrast of the black and white, to make the textures jump out more.

Over the weekend I led a private tour group (a large group of friends) at the Brandywine River Museum of Art- took them to the Andrew Wyeth studio and through the Wyeth family exhibits and the new Welling photography exhibit.  I have learned so much over the past two years about the Wyeths that it was fun for me to share some of my learnings in this manner.  The photo below (from Wyeth Walk #165) is of one of the Welling Gradient installations – I love the way the colors of the river tubers are shown in the sculpture.
