Bale – Wyeth Walk #184

My homage to Jamie Wyeth’s Bale. I saw fields of hay bales on my hike yesterday which reminded me of this painting and Jamie’s story that he spent close to a month with one hay bale, watching it through time and truly experiencing all of its states. Today I ventured out into the field searching for the perfect bale- trudged around and photographed a few of them until I settled on this one. I love the way the blue wrapping on the bale echoes the deep cobalt blue of the sky. In his interview at the Brandywine River Museum of Art in the spring, Jamie Wyeth referenced Bale when he talked about becoming absolutely obsessed and super passionate with one topic/painting – and then when the painting is done, he drops that obsession and moves to the next. I can certainly relate to passionate immersion in creative projects!

Went hiking a little later this morning -started in super cool nippy weather and by the end of my hike the sun was out in full force. Managed to get sunburn on my cheek and side of my neck, despite sunblock. I didn’t realize this until later this evening when I saw myself in the mirror. I was wondering why I was having a hard time concentrating on music – irritating sunburn explained it! I’ve been playing music from my Burchfield concert this afternoon and evening – re-memorized some Sibelius and re-polishing Schubert and Haydn. Also been polishing a Wyeth song I wrote last year that I would like to record when I get home. So, other than a few improvs here and there, no new creations today- unless you count the muscles in my fingers getting super strong again! Truly a treat to have dedicated practice time for this getting back in shape.
