Andrew Wyeth: “I do an awful lot of thinking and dreaming about things in the past and the future – the timelessness of the rocks and the hills – all the people who have existed there.”

I went on my walk this morning deeply moved by the story of a soul who left the earth this past weekend.  My yoga teacher’s sister died after three years with a brain tumor, at almost age 62.  Turns out that when she was 20, she had leukemia, and my yoga teacher was the donor for a bone marrow transplant – in 1973, when this was a very experimental procedure.  The sister lived another 42 years, becoming the longest living bone marrow recipient in the world.  When she was 20 and going through the fight for life, she apparently was in a coma and saw (and wrote about later) her experience with viewing the infinite beauty beyond.

I thought it fitting that I found a pair of glasses on the trail- another walker had set them up on a trail sign for the owner to find them later – or for this Wyeth Walker to borrow them for a photo – a token of the people who had been in that space before me.  I used their lens to create this image of the glowing light, an homage to the infinite and the beautiful soul whose last words before death last week were “thank you”.
