Wyeth Walks

Unfurling – Wyeth Walk #61

Glorious day today- sunshine, warmth, new growth.  Found myself in a patch of skunk cabbage that I almost missed- the colors blended in with the bed of tan pine needles that have been my view for a few months now.  But, when I saw the first skunk cabbage, I saw the second and the third and the fourth and the the fifth, and it went on and on.  Every one with lime greens and magentas and beautifully unfurling leaves.  I can’t say that I’ve ever known much (anything?) about skunk cabbage before, but I was so enamored with these plants today!  The pleasant surprise reminded me again of the Andrew Wyeth quote I’ve mentioned here before: “My whole idea is to keep myself open for the elusive something [that catches you] off balance when you least expect it.”

To top off the surprise, when I was uploading this picture just now, I noticed the photo on my phone’s wallpaper- a snapshot of Jimi Hendrix’s “Love Drops” guitar on display at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which my family and I visited last week in Cleveland. Something about the colors and curves of the skunk cabbage remind me a lot of this guitar!
