World Warp – Wyeth Walk #193

I think I mentioned before that John McCoy, husband of Ann Wyeth McCoy, might be my favorite of the Wyeth family painters (big words, those are!).  At least his abstract work is near and dear to me.  I fell in love with his works when I saw some of his abstract works on my trip to Maine this summer.  An example of these is his piece entitled “The Wave” (1964) in John W. McCoy: American Painter – a sweeping swath of greys and greens swallowing the painting, with blobs of white speckling and cresting.  The sidebar describes how John and Ann were caught in the middle of a terrific storm while traveling on an ocean liner and how this painting captured the feeling of the experience.

With my continuing spider web series I’m trying to capture my feelings this week of being stuck between the two worlds of artist retreat and domestic life- I’m still having troubles getting into a rhythm- I have swung almost completely into domestic mode this week, and the late rising sun has put a damper on early morning photo walks.  I only got a couple walks in- and even after this one yesterday, I managed to make it through the day without posting it on this blog.  I’m not going to complain to myself about it, I’m just observing – mostly with an eye to myself to be careful, I know how tremendously easy it is to slip out of habits, and I very much want to keep up the daily walking and blogging habit!
