This year as I compose more music for my Wyeth inspired piano album, I will establish a regular practice that Andrew Wyeth did every day – go for a good old fashioned walk. Sometimes with music, sometimes in silence. Pondering art, nature, music, creation.
Here are the notes from today:
Jan 20, Chester County PA, temp 39F
Chilly, crisp, sun glowing behind gorgeous patchwork quilt of clouds. Robins skittering through the bare trees (in January?). A bee’s nest knocked down, presumably by a neighbor who doesn’t want the bees populating this when the weather warms up a bit.
Hearing a haunting soaring melody coursing through my head over top the music as I listened to Steve Reich’s Six Pianos. Contentment and breath with Satie’s Quatre ogives (I’d love to learn to play these). Feeling of overwhelming beauty and feeling powerful and incredibly miniscule at the same time with Gorecki’s Symphony No. 3.
